Good evening everyone!

Here we go with our last week of school before our Christmas break.

Monday- is the kick off for our spirit week.

Here is how the week looks.

Monday- Dress like an Elf day
Tuesday- Red, Green and White day
Wednesday- Christmas Sweater day
Thursday- Festive hat day
Friday- PJ day

Our Christmas Concert will be held on Thursday. There are 2 show times. The shows are the exact same!
First show is at 9:30 am and the second show is at 1:00 pm.
I will be sending home the 4 tickets tomorrow, please look at the front of your child's agenda for the yellow tickets. 


Swimming- as mentioned before we are going on Tuesday for our last swim day. Please be sure to pack swim suits and towels in a bag to bring along to the pool. Should be lots of fun!!!

Homework- NO HOMEWORK THIS WEEK!! 

Please sign spelling test from last week. That's it!

Update!!!

Swimming Update- 

We will be going on Tuesday December 17th for our last swim date. 

We will be attending Nepean Sportsplex. 

Please be sure to pack a swimsuit, towel and bag.

This week has already been a very busy week!

Monday started with a celebration in the gym to mark the Second Week of Advent. Students gathered in the gym to reflect on this festive season.

1. Literacy- our focus right now is procedural writing. Students will be working on writing a procedure as a whole class and then trying on their own.

Homework- students are working on lesson 12 words. Please correct math from last week if there are any errors.

Spelling test - Friday!

2. Math- our focus on is on division. Students are dividing items into equal groups and writing a division sentence.

3. Science- students worked hard at desiging and creating a tower that could hold a basketball for 20 seconds or more. Every group failed on their first try but with some structural changes they all succeeded!

2. Students spent some time today creating Christmas cards for seniors. Students wrote a special message inside each card and designed the cover of each one. Students have been learning how we can show Love to those in our community with small acts of kindness.

3. A big thank you to all members of the community that donated items to the Elephant sale this year. Another successful year! I hope everyone enjoys thier Christmas gifts!

4. Food Drive- we are continuing to collect canned vegetables for the food drive. If you are able to send them in this week, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello everyone!

Welcome to another busy week here at St. Rita!!!

1. Homework this week is only on math. The first 4 boxes were done together in class. Students have already done this same worksheet (with different numbers) on Friday. They should have little to no difficulty completing the sheet.

2. Please sign any assessments that are in their homework book as well. If your child gave me their homework book this morning, I will mark the homework this coming Friday.

3. The grade 3 classes will be singing Oh Come All Ye Faithful for the Christmas concert. I have included a copy of the words in their homework books. Please practice as often as possible- we won't be using a sheet when we are on the stage.
Christmas concert is Dec. 19th - more details to follow.

4. We are still looking for the Citizen newspaper. I hope we can collect a few more before we start our project.

2. Angel Tree-

    

St. Rita School is proud to announce its continued involvement in the Angel Tree initiative.  The angels on the tree support students from our school exclusively. If your family is interested in participating in this worthy cause, please instruct your child to take an angel off the tree. The angels are organized by gender and age for those who already have a special gift in mind. We ask that the gifts be returned back to the school by Friday December 13th. Please wrap the gift and return the angel attached to the gift. Thank you for your support during this blessed Christmas season.   

3. Elephant Sale- Please continue looking for items that you could donate. It's only a success if there are donations!! Thank you so much.

4. Advent Mass- all are welcome to join us on Wednesday December 4th.

Hope everyone enjoyed their warm weekend. Looks like the week is shaping up to be very pleasant. 

Here are some updates for the week:

1. Spelling homework- new words given this week and there is a skip counting math sheet as well. In their homework books are 2 assessments that I would like you to look over and to sign. Thank you.

2. Math- here is a summary of what we have learned in the skip counting unit.

How Skip Counting Forward Works

•	When you skip count, you say some numbers and skip others. When you skip count by 2s, you skip every other number. When you skip count by 5s or 10s, you skip a lot more numbers than you say. For example, when you skip count by 5s starting by saying 15, you say 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, …, but you don’t say 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, and so on.
•	It can be easier to skip count from a multiple of the skip-counting number. For example, it is easier for most people to count 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, … than it is to count 27, 32, 37, 42, 47, 52, … . In both cases, you are skip counting by 5s, but the first way is used more often than the second way.

Patterns in Skip Counting

•

When you skip count, there is always a pattern. For example: - If you start by saying 6 and skip count by 10s, the ones digit is always 6 and the tens digit increases by 1 each time: 6, 16, 26, 36, 46, … . You can also see the pattern if you use a 100-chart. Notice that the numbers are all even in this case. When skip counting by 10s, if the starting number is odd, the numbers included would all be odd: 9, 19, 29, 39, 49, ... . - If you start by saying 38 and skip count by 2s, the ones digits are always even: 8, 0, 2, 4, and 6. The tens digit increases when the ones digit is 0. All the numbers are even because the starting number is even. If the starting number is odd, all the numbers would be odd: 39, 41, 43, 45, 47, … . - When you skip count by 5s, the numbers always alternate between even and odd: 7, 12, 17, 22, 27, 32, … .

•

The patterns when you skip count beyond 100 are the same as before 100, for example, 107, 112, 117, 122, 127, 132, … . This will also help you with their homework this week.  3. Science- students will be creating a specific tower for a final activity in our structures We are asking if anyone has any newspapers they can donate to the class. We need The Citizen please. No flyers. Thank you. We hope to collect as many as possible by Friday.  4. Swimming- we are off once again tomorrow. Please remember to pack a towel  and bathing suit in a seperate bag.  Tons of fun by all!! Other News 5. Our annual White Elephant Sale- December 6th - read below for information! St Rita is holding its 8th Annual White Elephant Sale on Friday December 6th.  All money raised will be donated to CHEO and Children at Risk.  This event has been very successful over the past 7 years. Last year alone, St. Rita raised $1350!!! The sale has only been possible with the help from the St. Rita community and friends.  Listed below are examples of items that can be donated.  Toys (all pieces should be included), stuffed animals (please ensure they are clean),  books (children and adult books) , household items (frames, mugs, decorative plates, tea towel, costume jewelry etc), holiday decorations (ornaments, candles, mugs, baskets, figurines etc...). Please NO clothing.  All items will be sold for between 25¢ and $5.00, most will be under $1.00. We will also have items up for raffle. Raffle tickets will be 25¢ or 50¢ each.  This is an excellent opportunity for students to buy gifts for family and friends and to help out 2 wonderful charities! Thank you for your generosity. Good afternoon!

Hello everyone!

Here are the updates for this week.

1. Spelling is going home tonight. There is no math sheet this week. Technical issues with the printer so I was unable to print a new one.
They are more than welcome to go onto Prodigy to get some practice.

2. Swimming tomorrow!!! Please send a separate bag with their bathing suit and towel to bring to the pool. Let's pray for no snow!!!!!

3. Students had the opportunity to write a thank you card to some veterans. They will be mailed off  along with the other grade 3 class. They did a wonderful job and seemed very pleased with themselves!

Hello everyone!!!

Welcome to our snowy week!

With the start of colder weather, please be sure your child has extra mitts and socks packed in their bags. Tomorrow should be a lot whiter than today!

This week:

1. Reminder that there is no school on Friday. 

2. Students will have to submit their homework on Thursday and they will have their spelling test on Thursday as well. 

3. Swimming!! Tomorrow is our first trip to Nepean Sportsplex. We will be leaving the school at 12:30 pm and returning to school by 2:30pm.


                   What to bring!!!  A bag that can hold a towel and a bathingsuit. 
               
Students can bring goggles if they like but they are not necessary.

4. Interviews are scheduled for this Thursday. If you have not yet booked a time please feel free to pick a time! I will be happy to see everyone!!

5. Remembrance Day- students have listened to several stories about soldiers going off to war and listening to the history of the poppy. We created a beautiful display of poppies as well as doves of peace! Students also wrote about what they would be thinking about during the 1 minute of silence.

We will continue to think about soldiers that have sacrificed their lives and those that continue to fight for peace.
We will have 1 final activity to honour those veterans.


Library
Our library time turned into some amazing tech learning. Students were problem solving and helping each other out!

Math- we are almost done our unit on data management. Here the students are working together to create a bar graph! Way to go guys!
